KDEN (Denver International Airport) to KPHX (Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport)
The Airbus learning curve continues with today's flight from Denver, Colorado to Phoenix, Arizona. The weather was was nice with some slight turbulence during the descent into Phoenix. Today's flight copied real world Frontier Flight 747 (FFT 747) and we departed runway 34L via the SOLAR2 departure and cruised to FL380. Upon reaching KPHX, we descended via the JESSE1 STAR and landed on 07L. I hand flew the final approach and apparently, I still need to learn how to properly set the VAAP speed on the MCP using the auto throttle. Needless to say, I was able to recover the approach but passengers definitely felt the landing. Oh well, it wasn't bad if you compared it to an F/A-18 trapping on the USS Ronald Reagan (Janes F-18 anyone?). On a side note, I used Aerosoft's web interface on this flight which allowed me to duplicate the MCDU on my iPad. It worked as advertised with only a flew slight delays when entering data into the MCDU. All in all....a nice touch and the co-pilot checklists and interactions continue to amaze me. Good job Aerosoft!
